Annual National Essay Contests: Sponsor an annual essay
competition on a variety of topics, in line with Iris Chang’s spirit,
courage and passion in seeking truth and justice, including, but not
limited to:
- the
study of history of WWII in Asia;
- the
impact of past Sino-Japanese war on the current political and
economical situation in Asia; or
- the
education of future generations on Asian war history.
- Support
Research and Archival of Oral History: Provide funding to
initiate, collect and archive written records of oral history by
survivors and eyewitnesses of the atrocities committed by the Japanese
Imperial Government in China and other Asian countries. The work
will be contracted out to students and researchers on a cost-effective
and efficiency basis. Selected works will be used as references
to further develop the oral history project into archives in videos and
multi-media formats when financially feasible. Records will be
digitized for retention and preservation.
- Provide
Scholarships to History Studies: Offer scholarships to
selected
graduate schools in China with the focus on Sino-Japanese War History
with subjects similar to those of the essay contest in Item 1.
- Select
Teachers for the China Study Tour: One or more high school
Social
Science teachers will be selected to participate in the “Peace and
Reconciliation Study Tour in China” – a two-week study tour of
historical sites that is administered by a Global Alliance chapter,
BC-ALPHA, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Two other
Global Alliance
chapters in Ontario and New Jersey are also taking part
in this program each year.
- Support
Development and Dissemination of Educational Materials:
Convert the materials collected from essay contests, research,
studies, and oral history archival into supplementary educational
materials for high schools and colleges in the United States and
Canada. Publish selected materials for public consumption, when
appropriate, through Global Alliance,
its affiliates or other
educational or media organizations, such as the Chinese American Forum
(quarterly journal).
